Jdash really there is not one thing which is genuine about the JW org--except perhaps its genuine wish to possess your money and your life !
The origin of the Watchtower was to promote the false announcement that Christ began ruling in heaven in 1874 and the "cleansed earth" which was to have come within 40 years of that date. Everything taught after these foundational falsehoods has also been false.
The Bible is not at all God's word, that is a superstition repeated so much and for so long that people have made the assumption that it's true. Assumptions are very bad things, go for knowledge instead.
Eternal life in paradise is the carrot which keeps the JW donkeys hopeful but it is a trap, an illusion, a distraction from the fact that everyone who is born will also die. The ransom sacrifice cannot work, it just a "belief".
Can you aim for higher education? that is one of the best tickets out of JW delusional thinking--and it will help to pay the bills too.
beliefs are not things to be chosen like new clothes; authentic beliefs happen to us without our conscious attention.. i have often seen comments from ex-jws to the effect that they are now unsure about what they 'ought' to believe.
others express offense when their chosen beliefs are challenged and well-meaning bystanders protest that everybody is entitled to believe whatever they wish.
this misunderstanding of what it means to believe something is unhelpful.. it's natural to want to quickly replace our old beliefs when our worldview has collapsed around us.
Very true Cofty, it's so sad to hear ex JWs say they don't know what beliefs to have. We don't need "beliefs" for goodness sake , instead we need knowledge and clear understanding!
The best we ever get is a feel for the shape of reality based on sound information from different disciplines, we can't carry around a bag of absolute certainties any more like JWs do thinking they know what "the truth" is and that Armageddon is just around the corner. These are just words parroting cult doctrines.
The world is full of charlatans and religious ones can do a lot of damage to the gullible.
i’ve just won the lottery!.
this will really make all of you jealous!
no truly, i won’t have to work again, enough money for all my needs and more, a lot more!
Incidentally another cargo cult practising tribe from the island of Tanna at the village of Yaohnanen believe that the Queen of England's consort, Prince Phillip ("man blong Mrs Queen" in local pidgin dialect) is a divine being!
I would put JW mentality at the same intellectual level.
It has to be said that these decent people were practising cannibals from the Stone Age not so very long ago.
this is my first post to this site, im pale.emperor's brother:).
first of all, i've left being a jw in june.
since then my family have tried to convince me it's "the truth" and force me to go back even though it's my own decision.
Welcome Dan and well done for standing your ground and making it clear that you do not intend to remain a JW.
We know what a struggle it has been for you but things should be better in the future. We all hope so!

The Watchtower is no more intellectually credible in its hope of paradise than the worship of John Frum is in the island of Tanna with its hope of precious cargo and abundance for all coming out of the skies courtesy of US military aircraft.
The impulse is the same; a fantasy of divine blessings showering down from the spirit world and forget the mundane barriers to the dream which the whole community shares.

This is the prize: everlasting life in paradise. Sounds too good to be true!
This is the deal, the cost of the lottery ticket: All you have to do to win the prize is give up your own conscience and use the conscience supplied by the GB, plus you give up your education, most of your spare time, plus all of your personal ambitions, you then adopt the personality of a sheep and bow before the great panjandrums of the JW org in holy obedience. You must now permanently switch off any urges to logical thinking.
It's a fair deal isn't it? Throw your life away serving the GB for the sake of being in paradise?
Hang on! Hang on a mo! all you ever get back is a USELESS PROMISE but the goods NEVER arrive, it's exactly like being in a South Pacific Cargo cult!
.....who has the best side of this bargain?
i’ve just won the lottery!.

I’ve just won the lottery!
This will really make all of you jealous! No truly, I won’t have to work again, enough money for all my needs and more, a lot more! I’m going to have a big, big open zoo and keep only animals which can be trusted with humans. I love watching animals. I’ll probably devote a lot of time to finding the finest foods and improve my cooking skills. I reckon with my new wealth I’ll be able to remain healthy and virtually live forever!
Did I mention the lottery winnings? Well it’s not actual cash you see but it’s real, oh! yes it is real, so they tell me-- and others who have won also believe it so it must be true. So you can guess how I’m feeling, I’m in heaven!
Actually it’s a heavenly lottery, it comes from heaven they said and you can win if your parents are believers or something. Like it’s an invisible lottery but the winnings are real ’cos it says so in the Bible somewhere and everyone knows that the Bible is the truest thing there is and you can’t get truer than that! I’m not sure when I get the prize but everyone else is looking forward to receiving their prize as well.
I wonder for how long other winners have been waiting for their rewards? I was told the organisation which offers these prizes has been going since 1879 so it must be a solid business to have kept going for so long but no one has yet got their rewards yet-- but they do keep on saying the prize is still coming.
They keep on saying it but I haven’t seen any benefits for the punters, the people at the top have their own TV station and they look super well dressed and well fed so I guess they must be rich and able to pay out when the time comes. But why no pay outs yet?
Now I’m getting a teensy weensy bit anxious whether they really mean it or not. Do they really pay up and give out the rewards? Anyone else won on this lottery?
I would like to know have any of you personal experience of receiving anything from this organisation after being promised a fantastic reward?
the watchtower study is not real bible study.
it is a study to introduce wtbts beliefs, doctrines, and practices.
just think for a moment!
PE the JW org fails abysmally once pitted against academic values, it's hardly any wonder they fear higher education. They would soon dissolve if even simple evidence and logic were applied.
The flock are indoctrinated at every meeting to happily accept gb ideas which are just pulled out of the ether as if from God. Makes you want to spit (or worse!)
What are you studying btw?
much has been said about “fake news”.
regarding the witnesses, they would always ask, “ did you hear the latest”?.
since the witnesses claim to have the “truth”, can you express anything that turned out to be truly “fake news”?
rstrats, I'll tell you what fake news is; predicating the whole Watchtower organisation on the news of a fake event in heaven.
The idea that JC came to power in 1874 was wishful thinking based on the gullibility of Second Adventists and their desire to witness fulfillment of Bible prophecy. It was all hype and no substance as usual.
Like all spiritual things there was no evidence and no proof. There is at least evidence they were wrong because they had to change the date.
